The Lido Civic Club of Washington DC is an organization which has been in existence since
1929, bound together by Italian-American heritage and culture. Our membership has been
and continues to be socially and economically diverse. It spans multiple generations.
The Lido Civic Club of Washington DC is an organization keenly aware of its civic and
social responsibilities to the community. Over the years the club has helped many students
achieve a good education and sound careers through the award of scholarship funds. The
club has helped the homeless, elderly, orphans, and disaster victims.

Our goals as an organization include:
- Enhance community awareness of the integration of Italian Heritage in society and
increase civic participation of Lido Members in the community.
- Enhance Lido Member awareness of their Italian Heritage and introduce Members
to the social, civic, and business community of the Washington Metropolitan Area.
- To recognize and honor outstanding persons who have rendered distinguished
service to humanity, art, literature, industry, government, athletics, medicine, and
the military.
- To perpetuate harmony, friendship, and understanding between this nation and
Italy

An ongoing effort has gathered the records of the Lido Club covering our 80 year history.
It is our goal to develop a multiphase internship program that will result in an archival file
and history of the club by sorting, cataloging, documenting, scanning and finally producing
a thesis document which is a history of the club. As part of this process we hope to scan the
materials into a relational database which will allow membership and friends of Lido to be
able to access and search for information from our records.
Phases of the project:
1. Sort records by year and month
2. Develop a catalog of records
3. Develop a methodology and then scan documents into an Optical Character
Reader/Relational database
4. Produce CD's of the scanned document for members and other interested parties
5. Write a comprehensive history of the club.
